Aerospace structural engineers are required to support the development of Spaceflight Mechanisms and structures, including electro-mechanical actuators, release devices, solar array structures, deployable structures, and other similar spaceflight mechanisms and structures. include design, analysis, production support, test support, and integration of development and flight hardware. Familiarity with moving mechanisms, including standard manufacturing and assembly techniques is required. Desired areas of experience include: Perform Finite Element Analysis using FEAMAP / NASTRAN and other FEM tools. Ability and desire to learn Thermal Analysis using Sinda / thermal desktop analysis tools. Familiarity with Spaceflight materials. Experience with spacecraft structures, spacecraft moving mechanisms, or launch vehicles requirements. Familiarity with Design for manufacturing principles. Experience with Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Experience with spacecraft design loads and environments. Familiarity with NASA and/or FAA structural design standards. Analyze systems/subsystems based on customer as associated with structures and mechanisms designs. Participate in the engineering development and support of sub-systems/products within our proven phased development process, including modeling, proof of concept, and implementation, and fielded system support. Conduct stress analysis on structures and mechanisms. Conduct Stress analysis using both classical and finite element modeling (FEM) analysis tools, static and fatigue test predictions and regressions, and certification/qualification report preparation. Additional tasks may include support for environmental testing, coordination with multi-discipline teams including design and test teams, and other engineering disciplines. SKILLS REQUIRED: Candidates will have strong knowledge and practical experience in aircraft operations, dynamics, and controls; familiarity with MATLAB, Solidworks; experience with 3D CAD/CAM tools is a must. Modeling of flexible dynamics (NASTRAN) exposure preferred. Candidate must have complete familiarity with typical aerospace program design, system integration, producibility, maintainability, stress analysis and procedures. Candidate must be able to conduct stress analysis on metallic and composite structures. A background in aircraft structural analysis (metallic and composite), static and fatigue testing and analysis, and finite element modeling (FEM) is desired. Familiarity with and desire to learn thermal analysis is preferred. Must be capable of applying knowledge toward solving problems of a research nature, and be capable of working alone or with a technical team in a fast paced rapidly changing environment where quick reaction capability (QRC) and rapid prototyping is the norm.
