Act as the primary contact for donors at workup and throughout the donation process, guiding them through information session, physical examination, clearance, donation and donor recovery. Participate in determining donor suitability and eligibility through the administration of health history questionnaires and review of other relevant medical records including physical exam and blood work results. Facilitate donor clearance with RIBC Medical Director and collection/apheresis center staff. Manage blood sample and autologous blood collections, verifying prescriptions of blood stem cell and marrow requested by transplant centers, and facilitate timely collection of samples used to determine infectious disease markers and pregnancy. Serve as liaison between donors, NMDP Case Management, Transplant Center, Collection Center and Apheresis Center throughout donation process. Maintain flexible schedule. Donor information sessions, injection and follow up calls regularly occur on weekends and in the evening. Locate, contract and train visiting nurses to perform donor injections. Be present at donation whenever possible. Interact professionally and courteously with donor guests, Apheresis Center staff and couriers. Document all donation processes accurately, and submit and file forms concurrently upon completion. Maintain paper and electronic files in an organized manner and according to standard operating procedures (SOPs). Follow best practices as instructed by department leadership. Serve as primary backup for workup related tasks of Donor Management Supervisor. Provide backup support for Donor Contact Specialist, assisting donors at high resolution/confirmatory testing with education, completion of health histories, blood draw appointment scheduling, kit creation and consenting. Maintain strict confidentiality of all donor and patient information and activities. Post donation, facilitate donor/recipient communication, information exchange and survivorship information. Quality Management Provide excellent customer service. Responsible for meeting NMDP QA requirements. Perform audits of donor records. Work with departmental leadership on changes to processes to improve quality outcomes. Participate in regulatory activities: QA, audits, inspections. Adhere to SOPs approved by RIBC and NMDP.
